Virginia City, Nevada

Virginia City, Nevada is a great place to visit, especially if you're a paranormal investigator or a paranormal sensitive.  Rich in Old West history, a visit to this wonderful town is like a step back in time.  Built in the late 1800's, Virginia City's main street looks pretty much the same way as it did 100 years ago.  With business names like the Washoe Club, Silver Queen Hotel, Piper's Opera House and Bucket of Blood Saloon, Virginia City reflects the diversity of a town populated with the Rich and Famous, as well as Prostitutes and Murderers.

Welcome to Virginia City.  This is the Fourth Ward School House.

Due to its' rich and often violent history, Virginia City is rife with paranormal activity and tales.  From miners dying in the silver mines, to murdered prostitutes, there seem to be hauntings in many parts of Virginia City.  The Chollar Mine is only one mine where deaths from cave-ins occurred, while hauntings have also been reported in the Washoe Club, the Silver Queen, Piper's Opera House, The Bucket of Blood Saloon, the Fourth Ward School House, St. Mary in the Mountain Church, the cemeteries, "D" street, and several private residences.

The nice thing about Virginia City is that most of the locals are "paranormal friendly" and willing to answer questions, and share about the city's hauntings and even their own paranormal experiences.  I found that the best place to ask about hauntings was at Piper's Opera House and the Silver Queen.  They were very helpful.

The Silver Queen portrait which is covered in silver dollars that are embedded into the portrait. The 3,261 coins weigh a total of 210 lbs. Just to give you an idea of how large this painting is, I'm 5 feet 5 inches tall.

I have visited Virginia City three times now, and have had paranormal experiences all three times.  I will be adding the experiences individually to my blog.  There is something timeless and alluring about this little gem of a town, nestled in the Nevada hills.  Just a word of advice to the traveller, though...if you plan on staying in Virginia City, be aware that the town closes up early, and you can be left on your own for food and entertainment.  Bring food that you can keep in your room without refrigeration or in a cooler.  Bringing books, games, etc, is also helpful.  However, for those seeking a little bit more excitement, Reno is less than an hour's drive away.  I definitely plan on returning!
